Just Add Ombre JAI#348 - So in Love ..... with watercolouring

The inspiration for my card started with an elegant card that I saw on American Demonstrator Mary Fish's blog here. I thought it was a perfect way to showcase the flower and sentiments from the So In Love stamp set. As I was demonstrating watercolouring it during a class recently I was talking about how each petal has an ombre effect - shading from light to dark. I'm not sure if that is what the girls at Just Add Ink had in mind when they set this week's challenge but these cards seemed perfect in light of the way I had taught shading using watercolour pencils.

I really like the simplicity of this design. It can be changed by simply switching colours. I love a design that allows you to do that. Why reinvent the wheel??? And Stampin' Up! makes it so easy as everything is colour coordinated. For my first card I chose the Melon Mambo watercolour pencil and then added the matching cardstock and thick baker's twine. The Glassine sheets over the cardstock create a softer effect.

For my second card I used the Bermuda Bay watercolour pencil and the matching cardstock and thick baker's twine.

To give the design a bit of height I have raised the main panel on foam adhesive strips. I stamped each flower twice and cut the outer petals off one. Each layer was also raised with the foam adhesive strips.

The So in Love stamp set has come versatile sentiments and little detail stamps as well. I think the 'a day to celebrate' stamp suits lots of occasions. Today it could just be to celebrate Monday! Make sure you check out all of the other entries over at Just Add Ink. It is always great to see lots of different perspectives on the one challenge.

Colour INKspiration Challenge #04

Hi and welcome to our 4th Colour INKspiration Challenge. To kick off the challenge we have a blog hop to get your creative juices flowing. Make sure hop around to see everyone's creations. Didn't you just love Kelly's cards? If you missed them pop back to check them out. I really want to try that technique - something else to add to my 'must try' list! You can find out how to enter the challenge at the end of this post. So onto the colours for this challenge.
Since I have been part of the Colour INKspiration crew I have unearthed some of my little used colours. It's been really great to get out of a colour rut. My advice to you is to think about the proportion of each colour you use. I grab out the cardstock and play around with differing amounts of each showing until it looks right to me. Then I use that in my card design. If a colour isn't my favourite I just use less of it. I have found it less daunting doing that.

Sometimes I'm a bit stubborn. I will have a stamp set in mind that I want to use but can't quite seem to make it work. I had my heart set on using the Nailed It bundle but just couldn't get inspired until the idea of a workbench hit me. I started with a basic Card in a Box fold and chopped off the flaps and cut out legs and well.....this is what I ended up with.

From this side view you can see that it stands up really nicely. I haven't added too many tools or other elements. I wanted it to be clean and simple. With some DSP and a border added for the tool board and some wood effect from the Hardwood background stamp I think I pulled off the workbench look!

For the metal part of the tools I have stamped on Silver Foil sheets with Black Stazon. I have die cut the handles out of watercolour paper and adhered the 2 together.

I added a panel on the back to write a message. I think that this sentiment really can be used for lots of things. I had fun using some of the thinlits. I love that the label embosses a border as well. And how cute is that ruler?

And of course it folds flat to fit into a square envelope.

INKspired to join the challenge? It's so easy. Firstly, get some INKspiration by hopping around to see what all of the Colour INKspiration Crew have to show you. Then you have 12 days from today to make and upload your creation to the Facebook Colour INKspiration Group. You don't have to have a blog to participate but if you do you can link back to your post. Hey Chick!

I have been itching to ink up my Hey Chick stamp set again. It is a gorgeous stamp set that you can get for free during the Sale-a-bration promotion. They are so cute and perfect for watercolouring. This is what I came up with.

I took my inspiration from this week's sketch over at the Global Design Project.

Okay...you have to squint and turn your head on the side but surely you can see it???? Maybe?

My cards were also perfect for the challenge over at TGIF this week.

http://tgifchallenges.blogspot.com.au/2017/02/tgifc95-inspiration-challenge.html

I used the same design for all 4 with slight changes. I have covered strips of cardstock with some of the Urban Underground Washi tape to create banners.

Wondering where my chicken wire background came from? I ran my Crumb Cake ink pad over the raised side of my Hexagons Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder, then ran through the Big Shot. It stamps and embosses at the same time. Just make sure to wipe the ink off after!

Now what can you spend $90 on so you can earn this cute FREE stamp set? Hope you all have a happy and creative weekend.
